why won't my my imac start up?

My iMac (2017) started powering off by itself after I put it on sleep mode. I would come back to the machine and it was unresponsive. I booked it in to be looked at and the night before tried plugging it in in a different room. It then decided to wake up. That was 3 months ago and since then it has done this quite often. The solution, at least for my machine, has been to unplug it and then plugging in it again seems to trigger something.
Maybe it's a sign of a slowly dying machine - I don' know.
