Quicktime screen record

I used the shift command 5 to select a portion to record, but the controls for the recording disappeared and didn't know if it was recording, and I had to escape to end it. Then I tried quicktime and the same portioned window popped up. No screen record controls. How do I get rid of the portioned window?

Keeping the QuickTime controls on screen: How does one do this? After I launch QuickTime Player and begin a screen recording, the controls disappear. There is no way for me to stop the recording when I'm finished. My only option to quit QuickTime Player and lose the recording altogether. QuickTime won't stop recording When I open QuickTime, I get a random menu window. When I screen record, the little window with the record button disappears. Then there is no way to stop recording without quitting QuickTime and then I've lost the recording. How do I fix this?

once you launch a screen recording and the controls disappear, all you do to stop the recording is to click on the "stop" button that shows up on your menubar once you start the recording.
