Screen stays active during calls, so I mute, speaker, and dial with my cheek

I have an iPhone 13 mini running OS 15.3.1.

My previous iPhone 8 had two visible dots on the top of the screen that turned screen touch OFF whenever I was on a call. Whenever I answer or make a call on the 13, the touch screen stays active. I've

activated FaceTime, Mute, Speaker (ear gets blown out) and make dial tone sounds with my cheek. I've googled the following solutions that do not work:

  • updating the OS
  • restarting the phone
  • using the Speaker (technically not a solution)

Appreciate your help.

If you have either dropped the device accidentally or exposed it to liquid or used it beyond acceptable temperature limits then…
