iMac freezing on Monterey

I took my iMac, (27 inch, 2017, 4.2 GHz Quad-Core i7, 16 GB memory) to Apple store where they swiped machine and installed Monterey as a clean install.

Since then, my machine has been freezing frequently when using Safari, Mail or other programs.

Occurs even with no other devices (external drives, monitors) are connected.

Is there a solution out there or should I go back to Catalina. If I need to go back to Catalina how do I do that?

Bring it back to the Apple Store. Usually such services such as you have done have their own warranty period, if you can document the service was done.

Downgrading isn't likely to solve the freezing issue, and could present more.

Would suggest following advise from previous posting.

Or the User ( you ) could start this trouble shooting procedure below. But if this is aHardware Issue - it will not necessarily fix it.

1 - Suggest restarting in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

3 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

4 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then this appears to be a System Wide issue.

5 - Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. And Safe to use.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This includes AntiVirus, Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizes, UnInstaller etc.

This will include CleanMyMac , This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus , Sophos Av Software

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot

The The Built in Security  is all that is required.

Firstly - am not sure to whom this reply is directed to as the User ( you ) are only responding to yourself.

Suggestion is to reply to the person or persons to whom one wishes to address.

That said as as per user response " As current user unable to download and run Etrecheck application.

  1. Established new User.
  2. While using new User was able to download and run the Etrecheck report.
  3. It's on my desktop but how do I post it?

It would be reasonable to conclude the main User Account is badly compromised by, probably, some piece of Third Party Software installed and used on this computer

Since the Computer was supposedly Wiped by Apple Store and a Clean Installation of Monterey was applied.

Has the User used Migration Assist to Migrate Everything from A Time Machine Back back into the Pristine and Virginal Installation of Monterey ?

From what the Report is showing - there is a lot of Stuff installed and needs serious evaluation and / or removal

That or a Complete Wipe and Installation of Monterey.

Thereafter - do not Migrate Everything from Time Machine back but just Migrate the User Account and nothing more.

Doing otherwise will just Re-Introduce the existing Issues on the TM Backup back into the Original Installation and Negating that process.

Thanks,

It was previously on Catalina and worked fine. Apple did detailed system check and everything was fine. They then swiped machine clean and installed latest version of Monterey OS.

this version of the iMac is listed by Apple as being qualified to run Monterey. I have 16 GB ram and only have apps on iMac with all data on external hard drives.

I am wondering if others have suggestions to prevent it from freezing or are the problems experienced so widespread by others that I instead should revert back to Catalina. System seem to freeze while running Safari and/or email.

Only an Admin Account and add, downgrade or remove another account. Since you have created a New Admin Account - the user ( you ) maybe able the remove the other Admin Account.

As for Time Machine Backup - would suggest putting the existing TM Backup Drive aside for Safe Keeping.

Get a New Drive and use that new Drive to commence a New Time Machine Backup regime.
