google opening new desktop

So I just got my new mac book pro (13in m1), i have not owned a mac in over 6 years so i am not sure if this a feature or why it is doing this. Every time I maximize google chrome, it opens a new desktop. what I want it to do is when i maximize the screen i want to be able to open other apps without opening a new desktop.

Google Chrome following to different desktops Hi there, I need to be able to switch between desktops for my job- in particular, switch between google chrome work spaces. Whenever I attempt to switch desktops, the same google chrome window follows me. How do I get each desktop in Mac to have their own google chrome workspace? I'm also noticing other windows following to other desktops. I feel something in my settings isn't correct on the mac. Thank you in advance!

Overcrowded Air Desktop On my MacBook air, I open safari and then open mail and then open powerpoint and I have three apps hanging out on one desktop. Then i have to swipe up and add two more desktops and move the apps over to give them all their own screen. How can I make it default for each app to open on their one screen? (and don't say I can't because this drives me crazy.) Thanks. [Edited by Moderator]

Is the behavior only occurring with Chrome?

Test the behavior after disabling the options in Mission Control preferences: Change Mission Control preferences on Mac - Apple Support
