how do I update my software for my apple macbook air early 2015?

My mac, which I just rebooted and is using Catalina OS, can't seem to find any system updates.

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

You didn't mention the model (year) of your MacBook Air.


It might be too old to go any further than Catalina. To be upgraded further it must meet the requirements for the operating system.

Big Sur: MacBook Air Mid 2013 and later

Monterey: MacBook Air Early 2015 and later


If this is the case, and you have OS X Catalina 10.15.7 there are no further updates to be offered, and you will be told by Software Update that your Mac is up to date.
