I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 12.5.5. I am trying to download an app that requires iOS 14 or better. When I go to Settings, General, Software Update, I get the message that my software is up to date. Can I update my version higher than 12.5.5?

Sorry no, your phone as at the end of the line for ios update.
You will need to upgrade to a newer phone that is compatible with the newest ios.

No; an unit running 12.5.5 isn't capable of 13 or above. Nobody on these boards can say if there are going to be future updates to 12, but they won't add any application compatibility.
