Pairing Apple Watch

I reset my watch to factory settings. When attempting to pair the watch with my phone, it shows that a software update is required. When trying to update, an error comes up saying "Unable to Check for Updates". It says I am not connected to the internet. How do I connect the Apple Watch to the internet after it has been restored to factory settings?

I have my daughters old apple watch. It tries to pair with my phone but says it needs an update but can’t since not connected to wifi. I can’t connect to wifi until it pairs, so what can I do? The older Apple watch was reset. It now tries to pair with my iPhone but says it needs an update first. I tried to update but I get message saying it’s not connected to the internet.
