If all your fonts are "clean", you shouldn't have any problems with FCPX slowing down at all, much less freezing and/or crashing (due to fonts). That said, nothing kills FCPX *faster* than corrupt fonts (as in — the application instantly disappears while you're trying to do something — fonts are the first thing I suspect.
Every so often, after you've dealt with a font issue, it may be helpful to clear your System Font Cache. Here are the instructions:
- Close all applications. (Important!)
- Start Terminal (located in the Utilities folder; press Command-Shift-U to open this folder).
- Type sudo atsutil databases -remove and press Return.
- Type your password at the prompt (no characters will echo back to the screen).
- When the process is complete, type exit to end your command line session, choose File > Quit to exit Terminal, then restart your Macintosh.
One other thing that might be weighing down FCPX with a font: if you're using the 3D Text feature with fonts that have characters with very narrow strokes, the 3D "engine" doesn't handle these well (you can generally tell because you'll see "spikes" at corners or "filled holes" where there shouldn't be... etc.) These are resolution issues within the font [small "em-square"] and it is best to avoid using 3D with these fonts. FCPX will usually warn you if it has problems rendering characters in such fonts.
Raleway may not be the only font you're having issues with! You should validate all your fonts and see if there are any others that might be causing problems.
