unable to swipe watch face to change it

I have tried changing the watch face on a new SE, and i cannot 'swipe' as instructed. What can I do?

Force restart the watch by pressing the crown and side buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appears, then release. It swipes left or right depending on how many faces you created
