Can I enhance a 2016 MacBook Pro?

Problem: I am working with a 2016 MacBook Pro with 250gb storage capacity and 8 gb memory. It was too limited in RAM and storage, so I added a 1 tb iMac into the mix. However, the problem is now, I need something that can travel with me. I'm a professional photographer that needs the large sized screen of the iMac, but the freedom of travel the macBook provides. I'd love to invest in the new M1 but that just isn't going to happen any time soon.

Question: Is it possible to put some money into the macBook to enlarge the RAM and storage then just use the desktop as another monitor?

Do you have any other suggestions?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.1

You have a 2016 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and 256GB Storage Capacity. Your MacBook Pro cannot be updated once it is purchased because your RAM and SSD are soldered on to the logic board. This is done to save space and increase efficiency.

You already have an external 1TB Drive for your photo files storage. That will serve as extended storage, however, the RAM is going to remain at 8GB.

If you are using Adobe LightRoom to process your photos on your MacBook Pro, then 8GB on your MacBook Pro should be ample if no other app is running alongside it.
