I'm trying to create a startup disk using a SanDisk SSD external Drive.
When I try to install system software using Disk Utility it doesn't see the drive.
But the drive does show up on the desktop and is usable as storage
but for some reason not seeing as a startup disk.
Any thoughts appreciated

The 27-inch iMac uses a more robust Fusion Drive setup compared to the 21.5-inch iMac, so unless the SanDisk SSD is Thunderbolt, it may not necessarily be faster.
Although, I understand you want to have separate macOS installs for your work.
What is the exact model of SanDisk SSD you are using?

Because I'd like to have a separate startup disk HD as the only drive I use for my work. Plus it's more storage and faster.
Is there a reason not to?
