GarageBand on the iPad is a very different program from the version on a Mac. They do not have much in common but the name. GarageBand on the iPad is making it easy to use the iPad as a musical instrument because of the touch screen - we can play easily smart touch instruments by touching the screen. But it is much harder to create a song arrangement because of the smaller display and limited sets of command on the iPad.

On a Mac, with a large display and a large system volume, it is much easier to use GarageBand to mix songs and to create our own virtual instrument tracks by entering notes or to edit audio tracks. But we need to connect a keyboard or another instrument, if we want to record a midi track by playing.

If you are willing to spend some money on a very good manual, I can recommend the manuals written by Edgar Rothermich: https://www.amazon.de/GarageBand-approach-Graphically-Enhanced-Manuals/dp/1494897962
