Safari can't dowload any files, but google chrome can

I could not download files because iCloud was full, so I changed my Desktop and files to the local computer. Now I can download pdfs and such via google chrome, but cannot dowload anything via Safari. I whish to still use safari as my main browser.

Saichenia,

Safari is part of the Mac’s OS system, so it’s not possible to delete it and re-download.

Open Safari in safe mode and see if you can download a PDF file. To open in safe mode, completely quit Safari, hold down the Shift key while opening Safari. Does it work in safe mode?

Cheers

Hi Saichenia,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities.

Let’s see what we can do to help get Safari downloading files again. You didn’t mention what happens when you try, or any steps you may have taken, so we’ll start at the beginning.

Looking in the Safari User Guide, have you seen If you can’t download an item from the web using Safari on Mac? It has some suggestions you will want to try.

If you are still unable to download files in Safari, let us know what happens when you try. That will help us better troubleshoot with you.

Have a great day!

Hi Mario,

I had already seen that page and none of the points applied. I can't download pdfs from gmail or images from google images.

I just tried to download a simple dog image and Safari crashed. And when I reopened it the tabs on the top of the screen became rectangles with rounded edges, instead of the usual.

Should I reinstall Safari?
