Do you mean make a connection to an internet website or some in-house LAN such as a business might have?


Regardless of which it is, what exactly is your problem other than "can't connect"? are you getting any error messages? is your connection being refused? Or are you maybe connecting but can't access specific locations?

OK, I get that. But what is your ultimate goal? If you know the server's SMB type it in. But what are you trying to do?


If you're trying to connect to the internet there is a far more appropriate method. If to a true server on your local system you have to know the server's DNS or something to ID it to the Mac.


What is the purpose of the server you want to connect to? That may help with identifying your situation.
