Why has Safari 15 stopped saving bookmarks!

Ever since upgrading to Safari 15 the this has been happening perpetually, unendingly and persistently.

There is clearly a bug in the new Safari and it needs to be fixed. As a graphic designer I do a lot of research for projects and save groups of tabs to have what I have researched available for future reference.

Not being able to save ANY bookmarks except as the new "Tab Groups" is more than just a pain in the butt.

I like the new "Tab Group" feature, but still need to save individual bookmarks and multiple tabs to my bookmark archives.

I have tried to remove the "com.apple.SafariBookmarksSyncAgent.plist" and "com.apple.Safari.plist" files without success in forcing Safari to rebuild the "bookmark.plist" file. I tried just removing "AutomaticBookmarksBackup.html" file in the hope that it would reset the bookmark sync routine, but it didn't.

Most of the time I have found that the solutions to Mac OS problems are a lot simpler that the routines suggested by Apple and many times I find the solutions elsewhere (And, I don't mean here, although I have gotten some helpful advise here.)

This seems to be a very basic problem and a very foolish coding error that needs to be fixed.

If anyone has a recommendation for how to fix this I would appreciate hearing about it.

Hey BinsuJiro,

It sounds like you have a concern with not being able to save bookmarks in Safari. We'll be happy to help out.

You've already completed some great troubleshooting steps. Also try safe mode. Sometimes just restarting in this mode can resolve issues: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Also try a new user account to test if the same issue happens. Creating a test user account can help determine if the issue is caused by third-party software or settings on the main account or with the macOS software: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

Thanks so much for responding to my question. What I have found out is this:

Apple had disrupted sync services because they were facilitating their new iOS 15 release rollout. It seems that they didn't think it was important to notify users of their computers and services that they were mucking with services.

There is a certain amount of arrogance in the lack of concern for customers and users, who like myself had spent a considerable amount of time to try to address the issue of Safari Bookmarks not syncing.

This message will probably be censored by Apple. If they didn't want to notify customers and users about service interruptions during the roll-out of iOS 15, then they don't want anyone to read this message.

Hi Karina,

I did not run a test in another user account. Although I am using Safari 15, It would not save my bookmarks until other devices I own were upgraded to iOS 15. As soon as that was completed Safari started saving bookmarks again.

The issue to me clearly is related to Apple's upgrade routines for iOS devices, and Apple had an obligation to notify users of the potential interruption of bookmark syncing and Finder operations during the rollout of iOS 15.

I also believe that the integration of all the new services introduced in iOS 15 and Safari 15 place undue stress on Macintosh FINDER operations which have crashed or frozen several times this week.

Being able to save bookmarks is incredibly important. Were you able to see if you received that same error when saving bookmarks in a test user account?
