Can’t renew Apple Care + for MacBook

I purchased Apple Care for my MacBook when I first purchased my MacBook. Now that it’s expired, I looked to see if my Macbook was eligible to renew my Apple Care and it says it’s not. Why are we limited to buying Apple Care…?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2
