Got a message saying my Apple ID and phone number was used by a new iPhone, what should I do?

First decide if it is real or just phishing. If you think it is real, do you recognize the information? Sometimes Apple's system seems to think a device I am using which has just been updated is "new" and sends me those messages. If I just did something such as update my device, or sign into a device I have not used in a long time I see those and don't worry about it..
Scams (e-mail, text messages, and phone calls) are getting very good at closely imitating true Apple communications. Always be cautious. Here are some guidelines:

If you are uncertain about a message and a resource provided in that message, do not click on any links. Try to independently verify the resource by going to a support page on apple.com and use that to contact Apple or to verify the service the message is telling you to use.
