Then the underlying issue may be that the drive has died. If that is the original drive, you have achieved amazing long life from it.


In the US, Macsales.com sells upgrade/replacement drives, and you could install an SSD drive in that older computer if you wish, but it will be forever limited by its graphics to 10.11 El Capitan.


MacSales.com main page has a really helpful feature named "My Upgrades" where you can specify your model Mac, and it provides only upgrades that work with your exact model, no other useless stuff.
