Mac laptop doesn't recognize CD drive connected to a hub

My new MacBook Pro does not recognize my CD drive, which is plugged into a USB port on a hub. I get a message saying the USB accessory needs more power. Any suggestions? Do I need to buy a new CD drive?

First ditch the hub. Unless it is a powered hub (has its own power supply) it will likely not work.
