remote management software

My daughter gave me an iphone 8 that was from her company that ceased trading. It looks as though it has remote management software on it. Given that people say we live in a throw away society and that we should reuse devices, i have an iphone that is only any use as a doorstop as the people managing the remote management software were made redundant and nobody knows the access details. what a waste

This would suggest they have the ability to remove the remote management

If by "they" you mean the company that installed it in the first place, that's correct.

If by "they, you mean Apple, that is not true. They could do so from a technical standpoint, but they do not have the legal right to do so. Only the company that owns/owned the device and installed the management software in the first place can do that.
