Trying to connect iPad Air using lightning to AV in HDMI port

Good day!

I'm having issues connecting an IPad Air 3rd gen using ios14.6 to a tv using an HDMI cable.

The TV is clearly detecting a signal, but the little blue icon for the connector dock only flashes in and out. It doesn’t stay lit, and the TV thus detects it only sporadically.

I've tried in on my iPhone 8 and got the exact same result.

When I unplug it, the TV tells me that there is now no source, so it’s clearly detecting it when it is plugged in. Any and all help appreciated.
