Iphone access to my pc

We live on a farm where there is no broadband so we rely on personal hotspot for our internet access.

We have a wifi dongle attached to the pc and that allows us to connect cordless.

My android phone connects all the time but my wife's ihone 8 will not. It will only connect via USB.

IOn the iphone's wifi settings, I can see my andriod, the ipad, our printer and even the wifi for the solar panels but not the pc. The pc is running Windows 10. Am I stuck with this situation?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you. We are talking about the same thing. When I say mobile broadband, I mean accessing the Internet via a mobile phone network (provider/carrier). This mobile broadband may not always be that fast, but anyway. So, the problem is the connection from the Windows PC (using a USB Wi-Fi adapter) to the Personal Hotspot provided by the iPhone (8).

Please note that the provider/carrier may have a limit regarding the number of local connections when using Personal Hotspot. This may be somewhere between three and five, but you should check that. Could the problem somehow be related to this?

You may want to have a look at the following articles.:

How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) – Apple Support (UK)

I guess that you have checked that the Windows PC with its Wi-Fi adapter is using an appropriate wireless security protocol for the connection to the Personal Hotspot.

Hello again,

Sorry, cannot think of anything right now. I assume that you have double-checked all settings, passwords, et cetera.

BTW, Apple says that The number of devices that can join your Personal Hotspot at one time depends on your carrier and iPhone model. Contact your carrier for more information. (Share your internet connection from iPhone - Apple Support). Just as one example, T-Mobile USA appears to have 5 connections as a limit (https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/apple/apple-ios-14/smartphone-mobile-hotspot-ios-14).

Hi Jan,

We do not have access to broadband. We live in the country and our only access to the internet is via our mobile phones using personal hotspot, which is via our phone provider.

My android phone works fine with the LAN dongle but my wife's iphone 8 will not connect.

When I turn on hotspot using wifi on the iphone, I can see my mobile, my printer and a network device that is connected to the solar panels that we have on the roof. I cannot see the pc, which is running Windows 10.

Conversely, from the pc, I can see my molile and the solar panel device but not the iphone.

The dongle is just a USB wifi adapter as you suggested.

I hope this makes sense.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Jan,

I have already read the two articles and reset the network on the iphone etc but still nothing.

I even tried using my wife's ipad last night but it too will not connect wirelessly to the pc.

So, I have an android that connects without a problem and 2 Apple devices that cannot connect to the pc.

Given that they are all through the one provider and on the same plan, I think we can eliminate the provider rules.

Do you know what could be so different between how an android accesses the pc against the 2 Apple devices?

Thanks again,

Peter
