When I try to import movie clips from an SD card to iMovie, I get this message: "No Importable Files" even though I can view them when the card is in the camera.
Possibly you have a defective SD card slot in your Mac, or a defective card reader. Also, make sure that the little locking slider on the SD card is pushed fully forward.
If still have a problem try dragging in the files from the SD card to your Mac, and from there into iMovie.
