I am using El Capitan and want to upgrade to Big Sur 11.4 but do not have enough disk space. how to create more space?

How do I create more space on my matchbook air using El Capitan? I want to upgrade to Big Sur but need about 20 gigabyte more space.

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

Follow the instructions in the Related Article above. The only way to actually create more space, as opposed to freeing it up, is to get a second drive.
