Problem syncing iPod nano with iTunes on PC

My iPod nano will not sync with my PC. The PC does not seem to see the iPod nano when I have it connected. I get an error message when I try to sink with iTunes on my PC. The error message states: the iPod cannot be synched. The required folder cannot be found. What do I do about this?
