The absolute best way to improve the life of your battery long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the night the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern.
Leaving it in low power mode will help indirectly, because you won’t have to charge the battery as often, and it is charge-discharge cycles that decrease the battery capacity. But then you lose a lot of the functionality of the phone in low power mode. A battery will last for 18 months to 2 years before it should be replaced, and a replacement is $69 and can be done at an Apple store or authorized repair facility while you wait. So just use the phone and enjoy it, and if the battery capacity reaches 80% before you are ready to get a new phone just replace the battery.
