I dowloaded the El Capitan but when i tried to install it, i got a message saying that i have to be on 10.11 version before installing
how to upgrade from 10.10.5 to 10.11 !!
You make it sound like you downloaded a point "update" which requires the OS X 10.11 El Capitan installed,
what you need from the link above is the full installer, upgrade link:
https://support.apple.com/kb/SP728?locale=en_GB
OS X El Capitan10.11.6
I have 13 inch macbook lro mid 2009
That model is hardware-constrained to running no higher version of macOS that 10.11.X "El Capitan." It is available from the last link Leroy provides above.
