IOS back up files

I would like to move my iOS backup to an external hard drive, however i cannot find the iOS back up files. I have no folder for -library/app support/mobile backups and the file doesn't show up in recents. Any ideas?

I'm running iOS catalina 10.15.7 and iPhone 7 on 14.4.2

The problem exists because the MacBook pro (mid2014) only has 128 gb storage and the iOS backups clog up the memory. I have an external HD with 2tb so no problems there but can't find the files to move to it.

HELP!!!!!

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Thats all there is......

It looks like you are looking in the higher level Library on your drive, not the one in your user folder. You need to look in the one inside your user folder

From the Go menu in the Finder, enter this exact string

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

(copy and paste it, the little wiggle ~ directs it to your user Library instead of the computer-wide one)

Also, you can keep a copy of all your iPhone photos by downloading them as you would from a camera when your iPhone is connected to the Mac. The photos on the iPhone will be saved into a Photos library. You can locate that Photos library on an external drive so it takes up no space on your internal. This doesn't back up other things from your phone (like messages) but it does back up photos you have taken with your iPhone.

The location is ~Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

Each folder needs to be spelled just right or you won't find it.

A better solution might be to use Apple's iCloud backup option for the iPhone. Restoring or moving to a new phone is very quick and easy with that option, while what you have in mind will require multiple steps.

You might also consider replacing the internal 128 GB SSD with a 1 TB one. Those cost about $200 from OWC.
