How can I use my 2017 27 inch iMac as second display for my 2020 MacBook Air?

I have a 2017 27 inch iMac and I want to use it as a second display for my 2020 13 inch intel MacBook Air. I have tried connecting them using a thunderbolt usb-c port and using target display but this does not seem to work. Is there any other way that I could do this?

you can't use imacs newer than 2014 as displays for other macs using target display

there are third party software which might let you though that would be over the wifi so performance could be a bit bad
