Apple Music search results: can't select all, view as songs, filter etc

In Apple Music on Mac, when I search, the items do not appear in a way that allows me to do any of the following useful functions:

  • select all (or even select particular ones) - "Select All" under Edit doesn't select all
  • choose view options
  • sort by a field (such as artist, length, star rating)

"Show View Options" and "Show Filter Fields" are both greyed out.

In iTunes I could do all of this from the search window. Can't figure out how to do it in Apple Music. What am I missing??

In a playlist context, I can change to View As Songs and then do all this. But that's useless if I can't even select them all to put into a playlist.

In the primary songs view of the library, before you try searching, use the menu option View > Show Filter Field. Try searching using the new box. You may also find View > Column Browser > Show Column Browser useful.
