Which was basically repeating what I said. You can't back up the hard drive, you just use iCloud's syncing storage to act as a quasi-backup.

iCloud isn't set up that way. It is a syncing service, not a hard drive in the sky the way some cloud storage services are. It's backup features are an incidental aspect of it storing items on your computer in iCloud Drive for access by other services also using your iCloud account.
