Is it cost effective to replace an old iPhone 8 battery or replace the phone?

I guess it is up to you to decide if you want to just put the money towards a newer phone. If all you need are the currently available functions and need to keep the phone working for another couple of years then it probably is worth repairing. Some newer models offer features such as better Airtag support so if you're really keen on that you may want to buy something newer.
