Resolving slow WiFi

Recently the WiFi speed has dropped significantly - the ISP sent an engineer and the speed test by the engineer shows the correct 600 Mbs, but the speed test on the computer shows 150 range Mbs.

The engineer advised that some programs on the computer could be causing the drop in WiFi speed.

I have cleaned the computer cache, but wonder if some other system program is causing the issue. Or whether some other stored files need cleaning out?

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thank you for the support P.Phillips.

No, I don't use a VPN.

I do have a habit of dragging and dropping files into the trash sometimes, so that is a good point thank you.

So, I downloaded and ran Cleaner One from the apps store, ran that to remove rubbish, and now the WiFi is back to 600 Mbs.

I would never consider this as a solution, so thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

There could be some software issue causing this, and the report may help us figure it out.

Also: in System Preferences->Network, select the network service you are using (Wifi or Ethernet, as the case may be).

Click Advanced, then click Proxies. Do you have any thing set up there? Usually, there should be no proxies.

Are you running a Virtual Private Network ( VPN ) on this computer ? Depending on that answer - you may need to Remove it Only as per the Developers Instructions. Do Not Drag and Drop to Trash as this may leave residue parts still installed and will create havoc. If this is not your case - No VPN - Disregard.
