Can I retrieve photos from an iPhone backup copy without restoring that backup to a new phone?

I would like to access or retrieve photos from an old iPhone backup copy without actually restoring that backup to my new phone - is that possible?

Backups are "all or nothing" and you can't pick out files from it.
