MacBook speakers not working

I have checked sound settings--input levels are fine and mute is not selected. Still no sound. Any ideas of what is wrong?

Perhaps to reset NVRAM (PRAM) may help the system, secondary

or lesser issues can be resolved in the process of doing this reset.

The sequence of 'four keys + power' need to be critically timed.

"..If you experience issues with sleep, wake, power, charging your Mac

notebook battery, or other power-related symptoms, you might need

to reset the SMC (System Management Controller)." ~Intel-based Mac.

IF your MacBook is later M1 MacBook/Air or MacBook/Pro: There

are other pathways to accomplish many more, by another method:

• Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with M1 Apple Silicon - Apple Support
