My mac book air has enough space to back up my iPhone but will not due to insufficient space?.
how do I get it to back up as I need a new phone.

What about the OTHER space on my phone? Music says my iPhone SE 1st Gen ( 32 GB ) is using 25.71 GB with 378.9 MB Available. That does not add up. And I can't backup my phone to do a factory reset or the other out of date solutions suggested.
I ended up doing a restore and reloading the backup. Mostly okay - The Encrypted Process verification is not working - maybe in the morning it will. Don't want to hav etc look up a bunch of passwords. Phone showing lots of free space now.
Actually, the Encrypted Process verification is working perfectly; you didn’t enter the correct password that you created the first time you made an encrypted backup. It’s doing exactly what it was designed to do; protect the security of the data your backup.
