Siri failing with "something went wrong" and endless "working on it" when it used to work

Until a week or so ago, Siri was pretty reliable given the few tasks I had her do (mostly pausing audiobook playback while driving, and starting playback afterward). Now when I say "Hey Siri, play" it seems like it'll work, but then the spinning disks do their thing for a while, followed by "On it" or "Working on it" and eventually ending with "Something went wrong".

I've restarted Siri with no effect on the problem. Any suggestions?

Do you have an Internet connection, either Wi-Fi or cellular data?
