How does one update the firmware on an AirPod Max?

Typically when you charge your AirPod Max the firmware will get loaded. Your best shot at getting this to happen is to do so overnight.

BTW I was having issues with the balance being off ever so slightly (bias to the left) which the firmware resolved. I was beginning to think it was my ears.
