No. This is not possible. M1 Macs and macOS Big Sur do not work with Target Display mode.
An excellent display choice is: LG UltraFine 4K Display - Apple.

Technically that's correct. It wouldn't be Target Display Mode. There are certain limitations. However, it is possible to use a 2010 iMac as a display.

Actually it may be possible if your 2010 iMac has a mini-Display port. There are a couple YouTube videos explaining how.

Yes, it´s good to have that option, but now I´d like to use an M1 MacBook Air as an editing machine until new iMacs are released, using my old iMac display externally.
