after i did an update i no longer can access my pictures from iPhoto. does anyone know how to get my pictures back from iPhoto

Photos replaced iPhoto years ago.

Launch Photos with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog, choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will create a new library from your iPhoto media. Your iPhoto library will not be changed, but it will be renamed.
