Read this: If your Mac starts up to an Apple logo or progress bar - Apple Support.

And try these:

PRAM Reset: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
SMC Reset: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
First Aid: How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility - Apple Support.
