There are a few things you can do, but whoever discovers how to block all spam calls should be eligible for a Nobel Prize. The real issue is it is difficult for technology to differentiate a spam call from a legitimate call. But here are a few things you can do:

  • If you only expect calls from your contacts go to Settings/Phone and turn on Silence Unknown Callers.
  • See if your carrier has a call blocking app; for example, AT&T’s Call Protect
  • Install a 3rd party call blocking app such as Nomorobo
  • If you don’t recognize a number double-press the SIDE button to send it to voicemail

Mute all unknown callers, as mentioned above.

Grumble at your legislative representatives, too.

Until there are meaningful costs and/or punishments, the spam calls will continue.

Like email spam, the spam callers spoof the calling numbers, which means that blocking each calling number is futile.

The only option is to block all unrecognized callers.

And to recognize that those "known" calling numbers can still be spoofed, but probably won't be by your average spammer.
