How do I also get notifications on my phone when Apple Watch is nearby?

If my phone is asleep or locked and I receive a text, the only notification that "dings" will be on my watch. Is there a way to have my iPhone ding when I get new notifications, even if my Apple Watch is on my wrist. I know the watch will catch it, but I would like the phone to ding as well. It seems it is impossible for both to receive the audible alert of a new notification. Obviously, the alerts are on my phone when I pick it back up, but how can I get it to ding as it would if I were not wearing the watch?
