page added but not at the insertion point but after the last page

I'm working on a multi-page Pages word processing document. I've verified that it is word processing not page layout. When I place the insertion point and click +add, the page is added at the end of the document, not below the insertion point.

A short experiment revealed how to insert a page between two other pages in a Page Layout document.

Open the left sidebar to show the page thumbnails. The thumbnail for the page you 'are on' will be highlighted with a blue frame, but will not show a yellow 'section frame' around that page.

Click on the thumbnail to Select the Page (which is also a Section in this type of document), and the yellow frame will appear, telling you the section (containing Page 2) is selected.

With the section selected, go to the Insert menu and choose Page.

The inserted page is placed between the selected page and the page following it.

Barry

Hi Salty Dog,

Have to agree with Camelot.

Unless things have recently been changed, "Page" appears on the Insert menu only for a Page Layout document. In a Word processing document, you'll see "Section"

Page Layout:

Word processing:

To create a new page in the middle of a Pages word processing document, place the insertion point where you want the previous page to end, then go Insert > Page break.

(The Page break item in this menu is greyed because the insertion point was not placed in the document before opening the menu.)

Pages in word processing documents are created as they are needed to accommodate the text—add enough text to flow past the end of the existing page, and Pages will add a new page to contain the overflow. Delete text and the text below will move up to fill the space. Dlete enough text and the last page will disappear.

Regard,

Barry

What you say does makes sense for a page layout document, where the flow is more nebulous and you might want a blank page in the middle, but I think this is normal, expected behavior for a word processing document.

Ordinarily, word processing documents flow from top to bottom (or from the first page to the last) in one continuous stream.

If Add Page inserted a page in the middle of the document, it would break that flow.

Am I missing something?
