Won't update to Big Sur

why do I see references to macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 but click Software Update to check for updates says I am up-to-date with macOS Catalina 10.15.7?

Big Sur update not working on Mid 2015 MacBook Pro. I currently am on the macOS Catalina 10.15.7 update and am not able to download Big Sur. My computer was introduced Mid 2015 and when I went to the App Store and clicked get for the Big Sur update, it said that this update wasn't available. Help?

Does one have Automatically update turned off ? Also, as per link form @dialabrain - note the requirements for Empty Space for successful installation
