Gray screen after reinstalling macOS

I reinstalled macOS on my imac and after startup I just have a gray screen and cursor, sometimes the screen blinks abruptly in white and stays gray again. How to solve this?

See if you can boot into safe mode How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support and then reboot normally.
