Can't connect AirPods to new replacement Case

Recently purchased a replacement case for my AirPods. New Serial # is gf****mmt to the recently purchased case. The case was purchased via Amazon through AppleFulfillment if not mistaken. I have placed in my air pods which seem to not be connecting to the replacement case. I have attempted holding the button as described on your troubleshooting article with no success. Wanted to know if there are alternative methods to successfully connect my air pods to the new replacement case.
