I need an hdmi/VGA adapter for my 16 in Macbook Pro 2 yr 2020 to a Viewsonic monitor. Which adapter do I order please? I have lightning bolt 3 ports.

Your Mac has Thunderbolt 3 ports which are functionally the same as USB-C. You need a USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to VGA cable or adapter (HDMI is better if your monitor has that input).
