How do I get my HomePod and HomePod mini to play the same thing?

How do I use HomePod Minis JUST as AirPlay speakers? We have had a pair of airplay speakers for a few months and I would like to find a way to just use them as airplay speakers for my phone/iPad. I have no desire to use Siri, have it play songs or podcasts off the Internet or anything else. I just want to stream to it from my phone. Currently, they will start playing songs at random and make it very difficult to stop playing them. I have no interest in or need to have smart speakers. Thanks

HomePod doesn't want to leave prior sources of music. Sometimes my HomePod does not want to leave an input source. For example, if I was playing classical music (via voice command to HomePod) and stop HomePod, and then later I try to play Queen from my iPhone or laptop, the connection to classical music is still active. Occasionally I get a message asking me if I want to replace what is playing. Sometimes HomePod offers to sell me a multi-source upgrade. Sometimes, I just can't get my iPhone to connect to the HomePod. When that happens, I'll get a message that says I can't connect with airplay. Is there a way to get HomePod to disconnect from a source of input and go to another source of input?

For AirPlay. Choose both from the selection that comes up.

If you’re asking Siri, you just say play to all, both or everywhere.
